Tips: I wanted to work four tiles around the center chandelier instead of removing this valuable (and heavy!!) item and putting the light fixture in the center of one tile. As such, my husband and I measured all the walls and marked dead center on each wall. We then used a string chalk line and marked the center of each wall to the center of the chandelier and chalked four lines on the ceiling, dividing the ceiling into four quadrants. By doing so, we could start gluing tiles in the center along the lines and move outward. As the room was exactly square (that is historic craftsmanship!!) and exactly sixteen feet in all directions there was no cutting of tiles at the edges and, following the lines, all tiles on the ceiling were straight. Each tile fit into place with no difficulties. (NOTE: The hardest part of this project was caulking between the tiles! What a job! There are two more rooms to tile, including a grand ballroom that will be the main Art Gallery. We purchased an electric caulking gun!)
Describe Your Project: The new home for Heirloom Art Studio's Fine Art and Restoration Studios and Gallery is located in the historic city of Madison, Indiana. Our building, on the National Registry of Historic Places, was built in 1840. While many of the historic details are there, the building has been a Funeral Home since 1923 and had....butt ugly decor!!! As a professional fine artist, portrait artist, and photographic and fine art restoration specialist my reputation and the atmosphere in the building deserved a look of quality and historic charm. This room, the former dining room, displays an 1800's gasolier chandelier that once operated on gas. It and the cast iron fireplace that burned coal were original to the room. As this central room is now used for sitting down and consulting with clients about their art projects and desires, it needed a formal look and the Romanesque Wreath ceiling tile added a formal, historic element to the three dimensional carved wallpaper frieze (at the top of the walls) which were ordered from England. When floral arrangements and painting samples are hung the room will be more spectacular and a cozy place to sit down and work with clients.
Would You Recommend This Project To A Friend And Why?: Having posted the progress of the renovation of our 1840 former Funeral Home into an upscale Fine Art and Restoration Studio and Gallery on our company Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube locations several people have already inquired as to where we purchased product. We actively promote and recommend Decorative Ceiling Tiles, Inc as the place to shop.
How Was Your Experience With Our Company And Why?: I couldn't have asked for more professional and helpful staff in my Project Consultant, Eric Roark. He was essential to the project by working out square footage, materials required, and pricing. He even sent sample tiles at no charge so we could make better choices for each of the three rooms to be tiled. After the sale, he kept in touch, and recently emailed to see how the project went and if I would send photos.
